Welcome to ADPOI
For the past two decades and more there have been countless
international initiatives on African development. But everyone
agrees that not enough progress has been made, and, that the
Continent’s development challenges remain as daunting as
ever. Such progress as there has been owes a great deal more
to internal financial and political mobilization than is often
acknowledged. The debate on African development and the preoccupations
of African leaders and policy makers continue to be much too
dominated by relations with donors. Yet no country or region
of the world has ever broken through the barriers of poverty
by an undue dependence on external beneficence. The new emphasis
on national ‘ownership’ will itself surely come to
nothing unless WE seize the TIME, and NOW……
